Lafayette Generals

2004 Connie Mack Baseball Club

 RECRUITING LETTER:

This will be my 22nd year of managing the Lafayette Generals Baseball Club. We have five teams under our organization. 14 and Under AABC, Sandy Koufax; 3-Legion teams; and our Connie Mack team. We are, once again, looking for a “Few Good Men” who would like to spend this summer as a Lafayette General. Over the past few years, we have been the most recognized 18 and under team in Northern California. Hopefully, this year, we will be able to keep up our annual tradition.

 Player Recruitment

This year, we will focus on the top players in the immediate Bay Area, with a focus on Contra Costa County. If need be, however, we will go outside the area, or state, to get the one player who will keep us competitive. Our Roster will be at 20 players. I realize that many of you have already committed to four-year schools. Our program is simple: We assure everyone that their game improves, and that we WIN !!

I am looking for player commitments by the end of January, so we know in which direction we must go to fill position needs. We run our programs no differently than those in which you will become involved with at the DI level. This year, the coaching staff will be outstanding…..that’s a promise!

 Coaches

G.M.—Don Miller—22 years with the Lafayette Generals. Current, an Associate Scout with the Philadelphia Phillies under the direction of Joey Davis, West Coast Supervisor. Also, just recently appointed to the W.C..C. Evaluation Committee for the 2004 season.

Tom Wheeler- (Part Time). Former St Mary’s College Head Coach and twenty years of Pro Scouting (Houston/Colorado)

Bob Ralston—(Part Time). Former All American at the University of Arizona (1984); seven years of professional baseball (Twins); two years professional manager (Williamport Cubs); and current Head Coach at Clayton Valley High School.

Casey Coakley—Former St. Mary’s College player and former Head Coach at Freedom High School. He is now back at Clayton Valley High School.

Chris Lancerini—Former St. Mary’s College player who has spent two years as the Generals’ Pitching Coach. Note: It has always been our objective to make each player better. If you’re looking just to play some games this summer prior to your college season, this is probably NOT where you will want to play!

MISSION FOR 2004

Our Mission is to WIN this years Western Regional Tournament and advance to Farmington, New Mexico, for the Connie Mack World Series, won last year East Cobb Yankees out of Atlanta, Georgia. I was told at this year’s national convention that last year’s series drew over 80,000 people for the week-long tournament! The 2002 Connie Mack National Champion was the Long Beach Cardinals, which beat us in extra innings 3-2 in the 2002 Regionals.
